A question about this place:
I would like to visit in summer 2006. Should I plan to go with a group, or try to make my own arrangements? If possible I would like to combine this trip with time in neighboring countries such as Nepal and Bhutan. Thanks!

Hi

Went to Tibet recently and LOVED it and am going again later in the year. You wil find that most tours start in Nepal which is magic, as you get to expeirnce the sights and sounds of Kathamndu and surrounds too. the two countries are soooo different! Note that for Tibet, you need to go between April and October, particularly if you plan to go to Lhasa, which I would highly recommend. Going alone is often nicer as you don’t have to trapse in large groups and be rushed through places. It igives you more time to appreciate the land and its people. Shout if you need more help. Jen

Definitely more enjoyable doing this on your own, or finding travel partners when you get there. It’s also more flexible deciding your own itinerary.

There are many hotels/hostels to choose from when you get to Lhasa. Prices are very reasonable, I paid 50yuan a night at the Gorka Hotel which is in the Tibetan quarter – highly recommended.
