If you’re in the mood to walk around outdoors, try the Riverfront—interesting shops, some restaurants, that sort of thing. If you want to get a guided tour of the city, the horse-drawn buggies are pretty interesting, especially if you have a knowlegeable guide. If you’re interested in museums, I enjoyed the Telfair Museum(http://www.telfair.org/).

Definitely go to the Riverfront. There is a great candy shop there, along with all kinds of other shops. If you have time, I would also pick just one of the historical homes and tour it. They all have a great story to tell!

Well!
I stayed @ the Ballastone Inn, which is quite central, convenient & very snuggily.
If you like ‘tourism’ stuff, the RiverFront is your location. (I was there while all the tshirts were disgusting & cruel “Got Milk” slanders about Monica Lewinsky, so MY impression of Savannah was quite tainted by the cruelty)
there is an interesting museum & City Hall is quite lovely.
Tybee Island ROCKS, if you’re into it…
if you’ve ONLY got 3 hours, I recommend walking the parks & reading up on how the city was designed by Oglethorpe.
If you’re into Girl Guides, there is a Powell museum.
If you’re into it, you can also take a trolley tour, which is nice if the humidity knocks you over… very likely!
I was overjoyed with walking the parks & the restaurants…
My husband enjoyed an Olde Southern shave… & later took a riverboat tour. I’d pass on the RiverBoat if I were you. the food is terrible & its boring…
If you’re big on history, there are walks, sites… cemeteries (the ‘sitting rooms’ in the family plots are simply fascinating views on how widows got time to get out of the heat & kick back… )
There is an historical church of the Civil Rights Movement, sites from films such as “Something To Talk About”, “Forestt Gump” & of COURSE you have to watch “Midnight” before you go… simply to get a ‘feel’ of the characters of the place…
that & you’ll probably gravitate towards the “Midnight” store on one of the squares…
(be forewarned, at the bars, they give you ‘one to take home with you’... careful.)
Forsythe Park is lovely for gardens & people watching…
the gardens are magnificent… I highly recommend having a lovely meal al fresco… but before the palmettos begin darting about…
there is a REASON they nail the windows shut… if they got inside, it would stunt their growth…
oh yeah, the story about Spanish Moss being toxic or full of bugs, is crap to keep people from yanking down all the moss & destroying the Live Oak appeal.
I RECOMMEND taking a Plantation Tour… VERY HIGHLY!
Spread Love…

Hmm… only 3 Hours huh.. I would definitely go to River Street.. Walk around there.. If you’re hungry try to get into Lady and Sons Restaurant in City Market.. Paula Deans Restaurant…or The Savannah Tea Room on Broughton Street is good if you want delicate and DELICIOUS sandwiches with Tea. Or Roly Poly Wraps (Cashew Chicken is good) is good! The local Shops on Broughton Street are cool.. the town is still changing.. If I ONLY had 3 hours.. I would just walk around.. River St.. and around the enchanting Squares.. take it all in. Maybe visit SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) Visit their Gallery on Bull Street (www.shopscadonline.com) There are just a few things.. Enjoy!

Madamwitty!
We were only in Savannah for maybe a full day ourselves but we packed a lot in. The Riverfront was neat and we went to a bar down there called Hannah’s I think. Can’t remember the b&b we stayed in but we ate dinner in the basement of a placed called The Old Pink House. Piano music and great food.
But I made up my own tour so I could see the sites from the book, Jim Williams’ house and the cemetery. I like cemeteries anyway and there are a lot of famous people buried there: Conrad Aiken and Johnny Mercer.
The best thing you could probably do is walk around some of the beautiful squares in the old part of town. It’s a beautiful city, you probably can’t go wrong. Have fun!

Definitely go to Riverstreet and walk around. You can probably use up the 3 hours in no time walking into all of the shops and watching street performers.
There are a lot of great restaurants there.

I don’t know about you….
I think the Riverfront is wayyyy too touristy. I like to dive right into the city.
If I were you, I would spend my 3 hours walking the squares…
maybe start by the river on East Bay Street, then move southwest (away from the river) on Bull street, passing through the tiny town squares and admiring all the houses, perusing vintage shops, etc.
Before long you’ll hit Forsyth Park, which is nice, and smack dab at the end of it is my favorite Savannah cafe, where you can grab a COLD drink—The Sentient Bean. 13 e park ave | savannah, ga 31401
that’s what i would do.
