I agree about Taormina.
I’ve only been in February – I hate great heat and it’s been murderous in Southern Italy recently.

It depends where in Sicily you’re going. I heard Taormina is beautiful but I’ve never been. When I was in Sicily I stayed in the Palermo area and also visited the resort town Cefalu which I highly recommend. Palermo is worth visiting as well.

My favorite place of all is Cefalu. Absolutely beautiful! I also really enjoyed the catacombs in Palermo, the temples at Agrigento, eating arancini in Termini Imerese, the castle in Caccamo, Villa Romana del Casale in Piazza Armerina, and walking in the small town of Castelbuono.

It’s going to be mighty hot there in August! And I hear that many shops and sites close during August, especially mid-month for Ferragosto, when everyone in Italy goes on vacation, so take that into consideration when making your plans.

thank you all very much for your help! ill be staying in west (mazara) and palermo area, but i will make sure not to miss taormina and cefalu!hope its not too hot this year:(
