A question about this place:

Hi. I’m not living for almost 2 years now in Portugal, but in my time the ISIC card was not very popular. The best card to have was the EURO<26 card. That one was accepted in many small shops even, and I think also on buses. But not inside cities, only long distance buses have discounts. The ISIC may be useful however in some museums in Lisbon.
So my suggestion: if you can, make both ISICand EURO<26 :)

The ISIC is always worth it because you get discounts on trains, in the movie theaters, at museums, etc. I don’t know if they accept it on buses, because I think it depends on the company—some do, some don’t. But it’s def worth the investment!

hmm, I haven’t been a student for some time, but I seem to remember my wife only having to show a student ID to get discounts.

Also, as duarteperalta mentioned, there are youth discounts available all over Europe for those under 26.

Having said that, if the ISIC card isn’t expensive, it may be worth it.

The isic card is trully worth while. In Portugal you can get discounts in the Museums, Cathedrals and any type of Nacional Monument or Private that you may wish to visite.
As for trains there is also discounts. I am not aware of discounts for bus or metro, unless if you buy the monthly card in which case the isic card would give you a significant discount. I would like to warn you to buy the bus ticket on some shop and not in the bus. Ask the persons around, where to buy. In the bus it will cost you a little over the double price.

If you are a student and don’t get an isic card, bring still your student card, specially if it is easy to see that you are student (Date, University, Name and picture if possible). I believe that if you show that at any of the possible discounts they will still give you the discount. Remember that Portuguese people are very friendly so it is always worth while to try and speak a little bit.

Hope you have great fun in Portugal. I have lived in several countries, and i must say that Portugal has some certain magic around it… Hope you feel it!

Hi! Yes, the Euro-26 and the ISIC are accepted in Portugal, but mostly in Musseums and Cathedrals… I think there are no discounts in transports, but… I’m not that young! :)

It costs 7£, so it depends how long will you stay in Portugal, what you’re planning to see (museums, art galleries), how you’re planning to travel (train, bus, plain?).
I would say that if you want to see a lot of stuff, take it! But don’t expect a lot of discounts in local buses. Main discounts are to see cultural stuff – Museum, galleries, and concerts.
Also if you’re planning to travel anywhere else this year it could be advantageous.
