Cape Cod can be very nice in October. It’s about the time we have our Indian Summer.
Late October it can get pretty cool though.

July and August are the best months, but they are also the most crowded with tourists. October can have some great days, but it is the beginning of the cold rain n snow season

If you manage to go on weekdays, you might manage to avoid most of the tourist-crowd. July is definitely the best month to visit.

It’s the best time of year if you ask me. Heck, if you go anywhere on Nantucket Sound you can still swim in early October. Not so, for the Outer Beach. In what town will you be?

Hi, I’d say like mooncusser and Mike, it’s the best time of year. No or very very few tourists on weekdays and weather is usualy quite nice. When I was there in 2000 we had temps in the 60’ies to early 70’ies but you could get up to late 70’ies or maybe even 80 something if you run into an Indian Summer breeze. Definately the best time of year as well as late March or early April. Depending of course for what reason you go there. For me the overall is to get reasonable weather conditions and not too many tourists – preferably no tourist at all. Have a nice trip :-)

I lived there almost 20 years and the autumn was my favorite time of year there. The weather will most likely be chilly. How chilly depending on how late in the month. The foliage, the sunsets, it all very charming in the fall.

As others have said, it’ll probably be a little cold, especially at night, and you may not feel like jumping in the ocean, but it’s very pretty and there’s lots of random fun stuff to do. I think you’ll have a great time.

For weather questions like yours, I love the Weather Underground web site (http://www.wunderground.com), which reports data from past years and local seasonal averages.
The link for weather stats for the Upper Cape (where I live) for October 2006 is: http://tinyurl.com/33q9xh
I like the calendar view best (about 1/3 of the way down); it gives you a good intuitive look at daily highs, lows, and precipitation.
