Well, I’ve just visted and you seem like more of a long term resident than I am. Also, I don’t know you or your wife, and what you need in a neighborhood. Sorry, I’m not much help. I had a similar view of it as a nice student town. In such a situation, I’d tend to go with whatever is cheap. It’s not so big that you’d feel trapped in a neighborhood.

I’m not familiar with Missoula, so I don’t have anything helpful to say. I’ve heard it’s very nice, though. Hope you find a great place!

My boyfriend and I only drove through, ate, looked around and went on to Butte, but it was very good place. I would suggest you live near the chinese buffet. We thought it was a good deal. :) And make sure you get a view of the peaks…the views are to die for. Though I don’t know where the best pladce in town would be for that.

If you want to live in Montana, I would not suggest Missoula if you are not willing to spend a ton on rent. There is a university there and it is a very pricey place to live. I would suggest checking into one of the smaller town around Missoula if you want to live in Western Montana. I am from Drummond which is 47 miles east of Missoula. You can still buy a nice size house for a reasonable price there and they have a good school system. There is also Arlee which is on the reservation and the roads are a bit hairy in the winter. The Bitterroot Valley also has some small town and is very beautiful, although also a bit expensive. Butte is a great place to live and the sense of community there is amazing. I no longer live in Montana as I opted for warm weather year round. I was born and raised in Montana and know the area very well. I also went to college in MIssoula and if I could, I would live back there in a heartbeat. I hope this helps you in your search. The people in Montana are fantastic and are always willing to help a neighbor.
