If you’re only there 3 days forget the mainland and go to the small islands. I highly recommend Beachcomber Island if you want a younger crowd and a lot of activities – otherwise if you want to get away from it all and go somewhere more secluded, maybe Castaway Island, Moloko Island – there are heaps more of course but these are the places I went.

I went to Bounty Island for three days. It is a really tiny island (you can walk the perimeter of the island in probably less than 2 hours). The resort there is very cute and homie. There were many families over there and it is a very relaxing atmosphere. If you are looking for a very laid back time then I totally recommend you going to Bounty Island. You should also check ferry/tug boat times to make sure you get to/leave an island at a decent time.

I recommend you do nothing. Fiji is a great place to relax, chill out, and not go anywhere or do anything. If you must have an agenda, I would go to the beach or a the pool and enjoy the beverage of your choice.

It depends on why you are going. If you are interested in culture, then learn about Fijian and Indo-Fijian customs before you offend them – even though they won’t tell you you’ve offended them.
If you are there to see resorts, then I’d recommend the Shangri-La Fijian resort, just outside of Cuvu (the “C” is pronounced with a voiced “th” as in the “th” in “that”).
Cuvu bay is a real gem, since the village side of it in Naidovi town is never populated with tourists.
Other places to see are: Taveuni island for great diving, Kadavu, also for great diving, Levuka for history, and the “mountains” outside of Lautoka and Ba.
Avoid clothing that is too revealing. This is not Hawaii. Fijians are very conservative dress-wise, due in large part to the christian and colonial influences.
Also, make sure you have good sunscreen. The sun down there is pretty intense, although in August, you may need a sweater at night.
Avoid: Nadi. The shop keepers are very aggressive.
Avoid: Suva, unless you want to see a movie, go to a bar, or go to McDonalds.
Learn about: Yaqona (yahn-GO-na) the national drink.
Enjoy: Fiji Bitter. I envy you this indulgence!
“Bula” is a greeting everyone understands.
“Vinaka” means “hello” and “good”
“Moce” (moe-they) means “goodnight”
I wish you all the best on your trip to paradise!
