Ive been afraid to go back home. I was in San Francisco on a business trip when I saw the house I had grown up in completely removed from its foundations and destroyed. I wept and felt like another city that I’d lived in had suffered. And New Orleans more so than say New York after Sept. 11 because you’re talking about a hell of a lot of people who have very little to begin with. I have to face it though. I need to go back to see it.

I returned home in November. My daughter Eva remained in Kentucky with family to finish the school year as schools aren’t quite back to operational here yet. The last few months have been torture.
I think Katrina taught us many things ( few of these are about weather). My love for this city has been tested but this is HOME! We have a long difficult recovery ahead of us but I believe we have the strength and determination to be successful.
