My wife and I went to St. Lucia for our honeymoon and it was fantastic! It’s great if you want a place that’s very, very relaxing and beautiful. We also liked the fact that it was so different from our home in the U.S. or places we’ve visited in Europe.

The people were very kind and welcoming. I think they really appreciate the tourism because their tourists spend a lot and don’t overrun the island—and they need tourism to make up for a loss of banana trade a decade or so ago.

The hotels and restaurants are incredible—at least the ones we saw were. We stayed at Ladera, which is high on a hilltop looking out between the two big mountain peaks on the island. Ladera has an amazing open-air restaurant and rooms with one side completely open to the outdoors. Birds fly in and out of the room. There was no problem with bugs at all when we were there in early June.

There’s very good snorkelling, or so I’m told. We only did a little, and we’re pretty clueless about that sort of thing. There’s a dormant volcano where you see steam coming up from the vents and boiling pools of sulfur water. There are wonderful waterfalls, at least one of them very high.

You can go parasailing and go on boat rides. You can probably rent jet skis. Overall, I wouldn’t say there’s a huge amount of things to do. Certainly no amusement parks or big museums or big city nightclubs. But, if you want to just get away and feel like you’re in a different world, St. Lucia’s a good choice.

My husband and I went there for our honeymoon. Loved it. Went to the Sandals – The Grand. Resort was awesome. Depending on when you’re going, watch out for the rainy season. I think it’s in the summer. Some local places close down for that time.

We saw the rainforest, the above mentioned sulfer / volcano thing, and took a land/sea excursion. Was awesome.

Also hiked up Pigeon Mountain, which is an easy hike, but it was great and ate at the restaurant at the bottom of the hill. If you stay at the Sandals, you can walk 2 blocks there from the resort.

It was really awesome. Not much to do on the island, not much of a night life, but if you’re going to relax, it’s the best place. Can’t wait to go back.

St Lucia would not be a place I would go for my Honeymoon, the trouble is with islands such as these is they are very poor and you are not safe to go out of resorts especially at night.

Albeit the island is beautiful and it is very romantic for a honeymoon, I like to have my freedom and not be confined to the walls of a resort – no matter how beautiful that resort may be.

I took my wife to St. Lucia for her birthday and stayed at the Jalousie Hilton. We had a great time and can recommend a visit to both the Hilton and the even more romantic resort, Ladera, which is in the same location – between the twin Pitons – just further up the mountainside rather than on the beach. St. Lucia has two airports: Hewanorra International Airport at Vieux Fort and George F. L. Charles Airport near Castries.

We arrived from Castries and took the helicopter (8-10 mins-about $90/per) to the hotel. the other methods for arriving there are water taxi(expect to get wet) and taxi(70-90 min curvy ride) The Hilton has a pad and will welcome and escort you to the lobby for check in where a cool face towel and tropical drink are waiting. The pool and beach are great with a snorkeling area and equipment free to guests.

There is a constant stream of taxi drivers, who will act as tourguides for a little extra, willing to take you anywhere you want to go, but I can recommend Soufriere town for groceries/gifts. The Botanic Garden, and the volcanic area. The locals visit for the theraputic mud which my wife encouraged them to gather for her to conteract the recent birthday.

As nice as the private plunge pools (ours- #209 was quite hidden)and nightly turndown service with rose petals at the Hilton are, I can also recommend the Ladera. We met a couple staying there while visiting their restaurant – Dasheen, great food and view. Ladera overlooks the Hilton below and runs shuttles to and from the beach. The exotically decorated suite has no outside wall and you are literally open in every room to the best view on the island.

The only problem I experienced was too little time in St. Lucia.

St. Lucia is a small, very laid-back island. It offers both, a touristy north-west and a relatively calm, relaxed south. I stayed in the south near Vieux Fort in a small B&B place called Caribdreams.net. Absolutely fabulous. If you can afford it, stay at the Lareda resort. At least have a romantic dinner there. The views from Lareda are spectacular. I recommend you get a rental car to be more flexible on the island. Driving on the left is not a big problem. Windsurfing and snorkeling is great in the south. Try kite-surfing just at the end of the runway of the Hewanorra Airport. Enjoy your honeymoon!
