A question about this place:
Is there any hammam you can recommend in Istanbul for women only? And does one have to go completely nude?

I don’t know. I’ve never been to a hammam.

I’ve never been to a hammam before so i can’t recommend any but if i could, that would be a women only one, because there’s not any hammams for both genders :)
As hammams are not baths, you don’t have to and even must not get there completely nude. You’ll need to wrap a fabric called “pestemal” that covers you from chest down to knees.

The only one I’ve been to is Cemberlitas Hamam. I think it’s pretty good.

From what I’ve read, most hamams have separate sections for men and women.

You will be given a sheet to wrap your body. And you can wear a bikini bottom during a massage.

In which district is the Cemberlitas Hamam? And did you had a massage as well? Thanks for the info.

It’s close to grand bazzar and sultanahmet.

I had an exfoliating scrub and an oil massage and it came to 65(??) YTL

I went to Cagaloglu Hammam
(http://www.cagalogluhamami.com.tr/) and they have completely separate sections for women and men. You go into these small changing rooms first, undress yourself, wear these wooden sandals that are provided for you, and wrap yourself in a towel before walking over to the bathing area.

The majority of the women were tourists and were also completely nude. You can choose to wear a bathing suit bottom or two piece suit if you are modest. To be honest with you, I didn’t know if I would be comfortable being completely nude, but when you are in a room full of other naked women, it doesn’t really make a difference. I think you would feel more strange being the only clothed one :)

Be sure to ask for the massage as well, because it’s worth it.

I hope that helps.

Do you happen to know, how much it cost to go to the hamman and have a massage? There was no information on the website.

I can’t remember the exact price, but I don’t think it was overly expensive. I can double check my travel journal to see if I made any notes about it. When you arrive, they will present you with a sheet of paper listing all their services and their prices. You decide what you want before you enter the changing area.

I ended up only asking for the most basic package (which is essentially being scrubbed down and exfoliated—it does amazing things for your skin), but the lady who helped bathe me ended up giving me a quick massage because she noticed I was really tense.

I just think if you’re going to go for the experience of a hammam, you might as well go for the whole thing! I regret not having paid for the massage as well.
