I have some great friends in town! Depends on your scene. What are you into? Everyone should see Central Park, There are usually street fairs all over town in NYC in teh summer.

I would highly recommend that Museum of Modern Art. If you want a really cool place for dinner, “The View” is at the top of a hotel in Times Square, and it’s one of those restaurants that rotates – it has a really good buffet, which includes dessert. The dessert when I was there had a chocolate fountain with stuff for fondue! It was awesome, I’m definitely planning on taking friends there. It’s expensive, but not prohibitively so – around 30$ per person.
For nightlife, I love the area up by Columbia University, and also down by NYU.

i recommend that you find a farmers market get some fabulous cheese, fresh bread, and some fruit. Then grab a bottle of wine, some red plastic cups and find a spot to people watch in central park. then take a bus down to soho for dinner and find a great jazz club to cocktail at and feel schmoozy. Have fun and take tonnes of pictures!!

It all depends on what you’re into. You’re going to be right near Times Square so definitely see that at night when all the lights are on.
Your hotel is only a few blocks from a subway stop at 50th street and 8th Ave. Get on there and take either the C or E trains downtown and get off at the Canal street stop. When you get out of the train you’re going to be on the west side of the island. Head east down Canal and you’ll walk past a ton of little stores selling everything from spark plugs to shoes. It’s essentially a mile+ long open air market and you can find all kinds of deals. TIP: Don’t ever pay the price they ask at first, always bargain with them.
And when you walk about a mile down Canal on the south side of the street you’ll see China Town, and on the north side you will see Little Italy. In Chine town wander around and maybe stop in Ten Ren for some bubble tea. (http://www.tenren.com/newyork.html) and in Little Italy if you like pizza try stopping at Lombardi’s Pizzeria (http://www.lombardispizza.com/). It;s the first pizza shop in America and has some really tasty food… but get there early on a Friday or Saturday because it’s a tiny place and there’s usually a line.
If you’re into museums try going to museum mile. It’s on the east side of Central Park from 82nd to 105th streets, and it’s where the Met is located. The Met’s the biggest museum in NY City and will take a good amount of time to walk through, but it’s free unless you want to make a donation.

There’s the museum of Natural History http://www.amnh.org/home/ and MOMA as mentioned before. And if you like small little galleries just wander around SOHO for a while. You can get there by taking just about any subway line to Houston street and walking around on the side west of Broadway Street.
Some other places you might be interested in seeing:
- The Cloisters – a castle museum in upper Manhattan http://www.metmuseum.org/Works_of_Art/department.asp?dep=7
- Greenwich Village (West and East)
- If you like Indian food, Indian Row on 6th street between 1st and 2nd ave. There’s a dozen+ inexpensive Indian restaurants all on the same street.
- Battery Park in lower Manhattan. It has a good view of the ocean and you take a ferry to see the Statue of Liberty from there.
- Take a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge
