A question about this place:
I am going to Montreal May 25th-28th with my husband for our anniversary. I have all ready been there but I only went to St.Catherine's street and partied. Anyone have any suggestions on what else to see? also, any cities close by worth visiting?

Hi!
I love Montreal, I was living there for 10 years!
Montreal is great, but you should definitly go to Quebec city, in the old port. Its 3 hours drive from Montreal and I highly recommend that you go at least for 2 days, you will love the old capital. They are celebreting their 400 years of discovery this year and a lot activities are going on.
In Montreal, you should definitly go in the old port also. There is a lot of activities going on there.
Festivities are very nice in Montreal, you have everything you need to know in here : http://www.quartierdesspectacles.com/en/accueil/Default.asp?

Have a nice trip!

I’ve been to Quebec City too!!! But I went when I was like 12. I wanted to go there but I have to drive cuz my husband doesnt want to (he’s a truck driver and he’ll be coming home Friday from a trip so he doesnt want to drive). Montreal is only 5 1/2 hrs whereas Quebec is an 8 hour drive. I thought about making a day trip to Quebec on Sunday or something but when i looked online I thought it said like 7 hours or something. Maybe me and him can go to ottawa cuz its only 2 1/2 hrs. We’ll see.

Quebec City is only 2.5-3 hours from Montreal… if you wanted to go there during your time in Mtl (but don’t drive straight from QC – Mass… it’s too long).

I also agree you should visit the old (vieux) port in Montreal… it’s a romantic, historic area of the city. Go out to dinner and then take a horse-drawn carriage around the area. For partying fun, skip St. Catherines… go to Crescent St. or St. Laurent.

Quebec City is also romantic and quaint, but there is plenty to do in Montreal! :)

Thanks. Crescent St. and St. Laurent St. is just like st. catherines?

No, St. Catherines is where all the American tourists go… and there really isn’t much in the way of good pubs/clubs… St. Laurent has great places and Crescent does too, but Crescent also has some great irish pubs. :) (I lived in Mtl for 4 years).

I don’t know what your interests are, but if you want a beautiful walk, the botanical gardens are very nice. Vieux Montreal, of course, is great for ambience, food, etc.

definitely Tam Tams. great place for couples to hang out for awhile! and there’s a nice sandwich place for lunch around there…they’ve got a garden terrace in the back and sandwiches as big as your face! really yummy. they also have great fresh squeezed juices…the place is called Santropol. just walk down St-Urbain from the Mountain and you’ll run into it. And by down I literally mean “downhill”. :) Good luck & happy anniversary!

I really liked Montreal, which I visited around the same time as you are. One of my favorite days there was when we went to the botanical gardens. It may sound boring to some, but the place is huge and they have many different types of areas, such as the chinese gardens. Great for photo ops! I am very glad we went there.

I grew up near Montréal and for me one of the best place to go is on top of the Mont Royal. There is a belvedère from which you can see all of downtown and the St Laurent. Especially pretty in springtime and fall.

On another note, be sure to grab a smoked meat at Schwartz’ on St Laurent. People line up to get in, and it’s full of locals.

Hi!
I see that you have gotten some of the same answers I would have given you :)

St. Laurent is the best area, I think, the best pubs, and vibe.
If you want to do something interesting, see the brand new Cirque du Soleil show called Kooza that is currently in town. Its so new that you might see some things you would like to be different, but its going on tour starting very soon and when you see it in your hometown it could be a different show.

You can go to the Just for Laughs Museum, and see all your favorite comedians up on the wall, and maybe see a show.

And Quebec City is very nice although I have never been there I know a number of people from there.

I hope you have a lovely trip.
take care
Kate
