I feel like I should expand on this question: My aunt’s daughter has been offered a scholarship to SU and is trying to convince her to move here. “What’s cool and non-franchise/non-top-20-music for my daughter who loves all that is weird/unique/funky?”
I told her, uh, pretty much everything on Cap Hill! She only has two fairly programmed days in Seattle. What’s important to squeeze in that might make the difference to an 18 year old girl from Arizona???
I gave the obvious Vivace/Bauhaus for coffee, Crave, Pho, Tribunali for food and vintage shops and theaters. But heck, I’m old (30!) and don’t go to Cap Hill that often…

Tell her to walk down Broadway. Then have her walk down Pine from Broadway toward downtown, grab a coffee at Bauhaus and then return to Broadway via Pike. That should do the trick.

Having a pretty decent bowling alley / pool hall in the form of the Garage half a block from her potential school or dorm can’t be overlooked.
If she’s a film fan, this is her town – don’t forget to show her the Egyptian, Harvard Exit and NW Film Forum.
Two big warehouse-sized stores can’t hurt (Everyday Music and Half Price Books), not to mention the dozens of smaller and cozier stores.
And after all that, once she’s got a pretty good idea of Capitol Hill, you might mention that famous fish-throwing outdoor market is merely all the way down Pine, and past it many other cool places (SAM, Pioneer Square, Int’l District), and should every so often she would have the time and inclination to escape the boundaries of her new hood, this city always has some ace up its sleeve somewhere.
