A question about this place:
I'm going to be in Portland this summer on a Sunday, are there any cool historical churches you'd recommend going to?

There are two really gorgeous churches on upper State St., above where it crosses Congress and headed toward the Casco Bay Bridge…

I hope you have a great time visiting.

Thanks! Do you know the names of the churches?

South Portland

Episcopal Church is on State St.
First Parish In Portland Maine is on Congress St.

I live in South Portland.
So I kind of know the Portland area well. I’m sure I’ve passed these churches, but I admit, I had to look up the names of them. Haha.

I hope you enjoy yourself, and I hope this helped. :]

I don’t know about churches but you should definitely see the Portland Headlight in Cape Elizabeth.

Looks like you got some good answers to your good question. As far as I know The First Parish Church on Congress Street is the oldest church in Portland. It’s at 425 Congress Street. I’ve been there several times. It definitely has a nice feeling about it. Cool balcony seating looking down into the church and odd details.

Have a great trip!

(And yes, definitely visit Two Lights State Park in Cape Elizabeth and Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth too. )
