Great choice :)
I took the same route in April two years ago.
Dublin is great but Cork is awesome. The Irish are so friendly.
In Cork,I stayed in Mizen Head peninsula, Heron’s Cove. (www.heronscove.com) Clean, ensuite rooms, very friendly people.
Train between Cork and Dublin is very practical, and so are the frequent buses. I went from Cork to Limerick by train, then took the bus to Cork.
If you decide to go to Mizen head, remember to tell the driver you want to go to Goleen, West Cork, Mizen Head.
Have fun.

Hey, I’ve only been to Cork city a few times. I enjoyed climbing to the top of the hill in the middle of Cork to look over the city. Try a pint of Murphy’s or Beamish in Cork but Guinness when you are in Dublin. If you find the taste bitter ask for the barman to add a shot of blackcurrant to sweeten them up. In Dublin go to the Gravity Bar at the top of the Guinness factory for a view over the whole city. In Dublin Moore St. is interesting, so is the Georges St arcade and Grafton St. Wherever you go try to talk to as many local people as you can. They will be happy to help.
