A question about this place:
I'm headed to Halifax in a couple of weeks and will be there for 10 days with access to a car for day trips. What needs to be seen?

You could visit The Mud Room Cafe on Barrington Street, get some candy at Freak Lunchbox also on Barrington, and then walk up Citadel Hill, and get something to eat at The Wooden Monkey in Halifax. A trip out to Peggy’s Cove would be nice and the Annapolis Valley is very beautiful and is a little over an hour north of Halifax with the lovely town of Wolfville. Along the southern coast to the west of Halifax is Lunenburg, which is very beautiful as well.

Hi,

It depends, what you are into – but most definitely I would suggest = Peggy’s Cove, Lunenburg/Mahone Bay, Cape Breton Island.

Hmm well I’m not all that familiar with Hali but you definitely have to spend some time downtown! I love the stores MEC & Venus Envy. There’s a nice used book store, too.

Cape Breton Island is beautiful, I live ther, but it’s probably too far a drive if you’re just planning on being in halifax.

I would suggest:
Art Gallery of NS, Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, the final resting place of some of the victims of the TitanicNova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame,
Museum of Natural History,
and for lots of fun the Discovery Centre.

If you want to shop, check out the MicMac Mall and others, check out Spring Garden Road.

For more Halifax info check out this website. Lots of useful information on it.

ooooo… so many places. As far as the downtown area… Economy Shoe Shop is great they have Monday night Jazz. Grafton St. Dinner Theatre is good times!
As for day trips… Lawrencetown Beach is where the surfers go! It’s really pretty out that way. Musquodoboit Harbour is also gorgeous. Lunenburg is also really pretty. I suppose a famous spot is Peggy’s cove… I personally don’t find it all that exciting, but it is pretty.. just really touristy. There is Cape Split in the Valley…
I have yet to explore every little in and out of this place… but I know you’ll love everything you see! And the people are amazing! So nice!! I’ve been here only 6 years, and this is where I consider home.
Have fun!!

Go to Truro (obviously not in Halifax, doesn’t take too long to get there by car) because they have really neat wooden statues that were carved from, I think elm after they all got Dutch elm disease, don’t quote me on that though. Also, the citidal and Peggy’s Cove are must sees! Very cool. And of course, Cows!! If you’re there during the summer, watch out for the frog tour bus… It’s funny at first, but get’s really annoying!

I didnt actualy visit much when I was in Halifax other than a couple of malls. My dad lived in downtown so really I just stayed round there – whether was walking distance as I was only 16 and at the age when Id rather be partying at a friends apartment than trailing round with my parents. Haha.
