The bus system in Ireland is incredible. It is called Bus Eireann and you can get all the info you need here:

http://www.buseireann.ie/site/home/

You will find a tourist office in Dingle town that will be able to set you up with all the BB info you require. If you are the kind of person that likes to book stuff in advance, you can do that too, but you will end up with the more “americanized” places at inflated prices. Youth hostels are a good bet as well.

I believe that you can rent a car for the day in Dingle town, but you should check that in advance. I am certain that you can rent a car in Tubbercurry.

When visiting Dingle, DO NOT miss the Blasket Island center.

Wow, thank you! Ha, I’m not a plan ahead person at all, and the last thing I’m lookin’ for is americanized. One more thing, do ya think it’s NECESSARY that I rent a car, or can I make due without just bikin’ around?

When I was there, I was on a bicycle. I took the bus to Tubercurry and cycled the entire Peninsula. As I recall, it was 2 days to Dingletown and a long day back. I was loaded for camping and although the hills are steep if you are crossing the spine of the peninsula, trips along the seashore are very easy. I would say that if you took the bus to Dingletown and stayed in the hostel the first night, you cold plan your BB stays for the rest of the trip the next day. You can easily get to the BB’s by rented bike or bus. The buses gladly put your bike whole and unboxed in the stowage below (unlike in the USA).

I’d definitely take a car – the Irish countryside is beautiful and the drive around the Dingle penninsula is great.

I would reccomend staying at The Milestone House (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g211861-d555815-Reviews-Milestone_House-Dingle_Dingle_Peninsula_County_Kerry.html).

I live in Dublin and I wouldn’t consider going to Kerry in a car. Flying is not that expensive and takes the risk out of driving cross-country on the wrong side of the road. There is also the train from Dublin which is less undignifed than the bus.

The traffic is crap and the congestion around Dublin and Limerick is appalling.

Fly with Aer Arann www.aerarann.com and rent a car in Kerry where the traffic is less suicidal.

As a local I would advise against hiring a car in Dublin and driving down unless you get a great deal. Otherwise let some other dude drive or fly down.

I would agree that one does really need a car to get around the peninsular in a short trip. You can hire bikes in Dingle for a day trip if the weather is good enough. There is no formal car rental in Dingle itself. Try Kerry airport Kerry airport or Tralee (where the train stops) or Killarney Town (where the bus or train stops)
try dodingle.com for some local advertising
The Blasket visit site is undergoing a change of ownership at present and you should check on ferry availability, and you will need a clear, calm day for a trip. Keep your schedule flexible and you won’t be disappointed.

You could consider one of the bus tour type trip, some are sort of hop on hop off, try looking up Paddywagon

Also Dingle is not the cheapest place to stay or eat, at least compared to France.

Hope that helps.
Mike
