A question about this place:
I've been to San Antonio. I've done the "touristy" things (Alamo, Riverwalk.) If I wanted to get a real feel for the city, where should I visit, what shouldn't I miss?

One word: Fiesta.

Niosa is the best part (stands for Nights in Old San Antonio). The whole event goes on for ten days in multiple locations. Niosa is the most popular. Lots of beer, food, music, and such in the colonial part of town near the Riverwalk.
Also, the Oyster Bake is also a worthwhile event. It is at St. Mary’s University, west of downtown by ten miles or so. Lots of live music and the other good things. You can also get a shot of oysters (a supposed aphrodisiac ;) ).

It is all in late April, I think April 20th is the first day.
Enjoy!

Forget the alamo, go see the other missions in San Antonio on the mission trail.

Then, make your way to Liberty Bar for dinner.

And if you’re around on the first friday of the month, FirstFridays is a blast.
