I don’t know about montevideo, i always rented an unfurnished apartment with a long lease. I know in Buenos Aires there are people who do rent furnished apartments for short term rentals (like 3 weeks). You probably want to rent some place in punta del este, piriopolis, or piedra, or one of the other beach towns to the east.
