There’s this place called Hotel Rex. If I remember correctly it’s not to steep compared to the rest, Zurich itself is pretty expensive.

With only 24 hours, theres htis nice street sort of by the river, it’s basically the center of zurich go visit that an theres some good fondue places….yum.

I cheer this. The street’s called Niederdorf and is only a few steps from the main station. Walk down the Niederdorf to Bellevue, cross the bridge over the river Limmat and you will have a great view of Lake Zurich. Then walk back either via Paradeplatz and Bahnhofstrasse, which is one of the most expensive shopping streets worldwide, or take to the right and follow the river back to the main station. This trip (2 hrs if you don’t linger, but you most certainly will gee) should give you a nice impression of the most beautiful part of Zurich.

For nightlife I suggest the Niederdorf (lots of pubs) and Langstrasse, which is kind of the multicultural center. For clubbing refer to http://tilllate.ch/

Uetliberg is really nice, it’s a popular nearby small mountain that locals often go. it’s the S-bahn, about 20-30min to the Uetliberg stop. then you can hike another 15min to the top, with great views of the lake and the city. it’s great if you want to experience hiking and the amazing scenery in Switzerland, but on a time crunch.
for me, the really special thing about Zurich is its food. bratwurst at Zeughauskeller, the famous ZurigschnÄtzlets (chopped veal, Zurich style, in creamy mushroom wine sauce) with rosti, the amazing assortment of chocolates, Luxemburgerli (a puffy petit pastry) at Sprungli, gluhwein in the wintertime, etc.
Zurich is a great city. very “quaint” compared to other international cities, but actually considered very hectic and busy for the rest of Switzerland. enjoy your trip.

And bring your storm/rain gear :) – the weather is rather crazy at the moment :). (Would be another reason to make a day-trip to the mountains?).

Have a nice stay!

I stayed in City Centre at The Central Plaza overlooking the Limmat River. Really lovely at night. Rate was about 235 CHF http://centralplaza.warwickhotels.com/.

Location was excellent. The Central Plaza is to right in Central Square, between main railway station and old town. Bahnhofstrasse is good shopping with banks & museums nearby.

Here is a good site to select a place by price and also what is popular http://www.holidaycityeurope.com/zurichhotels/. Running from 118 to 228 CHF.

Enjoy your trip!
