yeah, right on the river. and no, it’s still there, from what i could see! :D they did expand the freeway and put an on-ramp right near my parents’ house so that if i wanted to go into town, it take only 5 minutes as opposed to 7.
you’re in LA and know about Mifflintown? I used to live in LA too.

There are a zillion cool places to go in Pennsylvania…..from Presque Isle in Erie to the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh to Quaker Steak and Lube in Sharon (the original is the best) to the Kinzua Dam in Warren to the State Capitol in Harrisburg to football games at Penn State to Philadelphia… where there’s so many places there that I can’t even begin to list them.
Pennsylvania has just as many cool places as almost anywhere else in the world…..maybe you just need to open your eyes a little bit!

I live in a little town about 15 minutes- half hour from Allentown, PA. Honestly, I have been to about 7 other eastern states and I go down to South Carolina every year to stay in a house by myrtle beach… I dont see why anyone would really want to move down there… honestly there is not much there either. I know people who move down towards beaches and then never goto the beach anymore, because its nothing special that you have to wait for, you know.
I dont see Pennsylvania that bad, we dont get too many hurricans or tornados around here, the grass is lucious and green, the forests are beautiful, the mountains and rocks are fantastic.. but then again I wanna move to Ireland, lol.
You just have to get around to see. I know I used to think there was nothing to do around here, but thats where creativity comes in. With friends and creativity, I dont see how you could go wrong. Plus if you long for clubs, down in Philly there is a huge dance club! And concerts… the music scene is amazing in Pennsylvania, most new rising artists are orignating here- hence they had to get creative.
Enjoy it while you can if you want to move, there is a lot to be explored if you just look around and see.

its ok i guess… but i love the beach but at the same time i love the snowy hills…. so i’d really love to live near a beach but then have a winter house somewhere in the hills… its a little far fetched but im hoping i can do it!

I grew up in PA, then moved to VA and lived there for 2.5 years. I missed PA and I am glad that I am living here now. I’m not bored at all, I live 10 minutes outside Philly, and go into the city a lot. There are tons of things to do here and I love not having to take the highway to get somewhere.

I’m not sure how old you are, but this sounds like something that happens over time when you haven’t been anywhere else. I’m not sure I’d want to be in PA anymore if I lived there my entire life either. Although, I have many quite fond memories of Hershey, Harrisburg and Lancaster. Have you actually tried to take a road trip around the state? Perhaps there are things there that you’re missing out on and you don’t even know exist!
As a person that got to travel a fair amount, perhaps I’m lucky, or maybe you’re someone that actually can’t stay in one place. I know ppl that get itchy if they stay in one place too long or maybe the East Coast just isn’t your style. I can understand that.
I lived in Texas for 10 years after living in Pennsylvania for most of my life, I really missed the East Coast. I missed all the seasons that Texas lacked. All it was there hot-hotter-hottest and honestly, I’m not really that much into country music or BBQ. Of course, there are things I miss about Texas now, since I live in Boston.
I guess to sum up my answer is to really think about where you want to go before you move. It’s not that easy to get out of a place as you might think.

i grew up around harrisburg and my friends and i never had a problem finding fun things to do! we always heard people complaining about having nothing to do, but we always mananged to find SOMETHING fun, even if we had to make fun for ourselves.
after college i moved to an indian reservation in New Mexico, and honey, if you think theres nothing in PA then count your blessings. i lived in a teeny tiny town out there and i still found stuff to do. some nights wed drive an hour and a half to see a movie, but usually wed stay in and have pajama dance parties or something, or go visit people around the town.
now that i live near philadelphia, im too busy with grad school to go see my friends bands playing in the city. its all a matter of perspective!

I am guessing from your screen name and limited travel experience that you are 13 years old. First of all, if you are 13, it isn’t the place you live in that you want to get away from… it’s your parents! You have been to D.C. and you want to go to the beach, Spain, and Australia. How can you say the area you live in sucks when you haven’t BEEN anywhere else.
I have traveled quite extensively, including Europe… but my home is in PA. I can sympathize with your limited options as a young person, because I went through that, too… probably worse than you. (I grew up in the country, a 15 minute drive from so much as a gas station, about an hour and a half north of Harrisburg).
There are a zillion things to do in PA… you just aren’t opening your eyes. You are in Harrisburg, so close to Allentown, Philly, HERSHEY – which is awesome, and Lancaster. Not to mention, in the area that you live, you are within driving distance to some of the coolest cities in this country: Philly, New York, Baltimore, etc. If you were willing to drive up to 8 hours, even Boston, which is an amazing place.
And concerts? Are you kidding me? I am assuming you listen to popular music played on the radio. I don’t… and so I always had to drive to Philly, New York, Boston, Pittsburgh, etc. to go to my shows (which were bands no one else ever heard of). Popular acts come through Reading, Allentown, and Wilkes-Barre all the time. And again… YOU ARE NOT THAT FAR FROM PHILLY. And who doesn’t play Philly? Any act that plays New York plays Philly.
Moral of the story is… it is very easy to be fooled into thinking that you hate your hometown, simply because you want to get out there and see the world. Seeing the world and experiencing other cultures is amazing, but where you are from is quite a nice place to be. We still have drive-in theaters! You live not to far from the oldest one in the country! Do you know how awesome that is to people from other states that have never even seen a drive-in theatre? My husband and I go at least every other weekend with our dog, Onyx, from April to October. (The movies generally suck, but it’s still a great time… and we have four different drive-ins to chose from!) And Philly is just busting at the seems with awesome things to see, even for young people. They even have Eastern State Penitentiary, which is famous for more reasons than I could list. WE EVEN HAVE A CASINO NOW! At this particular moment in time, the only thing that I think sucks about PA… are the shitty roads.

first of all… im not 13 im 16.. 13 is just my all time favorite number.. n i’ve been to Lancaster.. i was just there shopping not too long ago.. n Hershey, been there too many times it gets old… n i’ve been to Dorney Park n thats fun but its too far away, n i’ve been to Virginia Beach, and Ocean City Maryland, ive been to Six Flags, ive been to florida, Grand Camen Islands, Brazil, Honduros, and Cozomel Mexico… so dont be saying that i havent traveled… and im going to Myrtle beach soon for 10 days.. everywhere that i’ve been that isnt Perry County.. i’ve loved! Perry County is a suck fest! and since im 16 i would be driving but i have been putting off on getting my permit n when i get my license im gonna go on trip to see someone in Delaware ((whether or not my parents like it))
besides.. do i even look 13 in my pic? i dont think so!!!!!

I can definitely understand how the things closest to you get boring. For me, it’s Knoebles Amusement Park. I have been there countless times, and when someone from out-of-town goes crazy about it, it’s hard to grasp from my perspective. But it is an awesome little park! They have descent rides, it’s free admission, free parking, and a great place to visit for a few hours of fun (when you have been there a million times and only want to hit a few key rides, otherwise, you could spend a lot of time there). I am so lucky to be a half hour drive away from an amusement park where I don’t have to pay admission and parking and can take my dog if I want! We go on a whim several times a summer.
Have you taken notice how the little whores dress now-a-days? Yeah, you do look 13, but because your tits aren’t hanging out of your shirt, which is commendable on your behalf. (Not like I have room to talk from my profile pic, but you get the point. Besides, I am 24 and married).
13 or 16… doesn’t matter… my point was that you don’t drive yet and you are still under your parent’s thumb. Family vacations and personal excursions are two completely different entities. What I am saying is… wait until you are a little more experienced in the world before you decide you hate your hometown. (Life experiences, where you are the one in charge). Backpack through Europe, take a road trip to Canada… you’ll have a blast, but I guarantee that each trip will make you appreciate something about your home a little more.
It’s wonderful to travel, but it is just a little nicer to come home.

A lot of young people feel that way about the place they grew up, but PA is a BEAUTIFUL state. I speak from experience of someone who has travelled to a lot of states here in the U.S. and also to many places overseas. These are some of the pluses of PA as I see it:
- Beautiful snowy winters
- Some of the most spectacular fall colors I’ve seen anywhere (especially in the Nortern part of the State). The only place that might beat it is New England.
- A lot of pretty cool history
- Philly is a really interesting city with tons to do (and I’ve been to most of the major cities in our country – D.C., Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta, Denver, New York, Chicago, etc.), so I speak from experience. (I’ve been to Pittsburg too, which is okay, but I’m not rushing to go back there except that the people I met were nice)
Yes, a big drawback is no beaches. So, if you like the beach another place would be better, but I would guess a lot of your not understanding why other people want to come there is because you grew up there, and other places seem more glamourous. However, once you live in those places, rather than just visiting them, you find they have pluses and minuses, just like PA, though it’s entirely possible that one of those places will be a place you’d prefer to live rather than PA. That is one reason people move away from their home town when they move out on their own—they find a city that fits their personality and interests better than where they grew up.
Enjoy Myrtle Beach, by the way. I love both the North and South Carolina beaches.

Well PerFectLiLMiSs13, It seems that you suffer from a case of i-live-here-so-this-place-sucks. I’ve lived in LA and Oakland most of my life, and you know what…. they kinda suck now…..the term played out comes to mind.
I can guarantee you that most youths in such “exotic” places as Barcelona and Sydney feel the same way. PA is quite nice, plenty of wilderness, old buildings, scrapple, oh, and how can i forget, since you live in Harrisburg, there’s the Red Rabbit burger (off the 322 west). If my LA, city slicker ass has been there, I can only hope that you have.
Plus, one could buy a house with plenty of land in PA…

Red Rabbit is the shit! One of the gems of Central PA….But I have to agree with the youngster—growing up there sucks. Of course, I grew up there as a person of color with racist assholes taunting me since the age of 4, so it sucked for suckier reasons. And sadly, not much has changed about the area.

I like PA because it has the liberty bell and the constitution signing in Philadelphia, great mountains to ski on in the Pocono’s, very diverse in cultures, and people for the most part seem to be nice here. I think it has a lot to offer to many different types of people and cultures. I like it better than NJ which is where I came from.

I used to say that. That the first thing I would do after graduating high school was to leave Lancaster and PA. I had to move out of the county with my family at the end of 11th grade, just to another county in PA just 1 1/2 hours drive away… I’m moving back to Lancaster as soon as I become a paralegal. That’s where I was born and raised, its where I belong, it’s like it’s my heart. All I’m saying is when you leave you might really miss it…
