We moved here from Chicago, and my boyfriend has had the same problem. There is one place here that has them, but we can’t think of where—if we can remember I will let you know.

Welcome to Asheville. (lament)
Try Early Girl on Wall Street, the Grove Park Inn (great regular brunch and best view), or Gabrielles… check ahead on the menus as they tend to rotate. Consistent breakfast (cheap) that has Eggs Benedict all the time is the “Cornerstone” on Tunnel Road (and they serve breakfast past morning making it a perk for late morning sleepers). They also have decent biscuits and sausage gravy if you have a southern streak.
Tupelo is still the most tastey bet in town with its offer of Eggs Betty or Eggs Crawley. Get the Pain Perdue as a side for the table and it makes a lovely desert to share despite its formal breakfast status. Their biscuits are scratch and they have wonderful raspberry preserves for them. If you are having breakfst for dinner, a side of sweet potato pancakes or sweet potato fried makes a neat addition (and may make up for the non-traditional aspect the feminine Eggs Betty provides).
I promise this list will help… Cornerstone safest bet and last resort (due to the lack of ambiance but a few classic comfort foods on the menu). Have them grill a slice of tomato for your plate and it rounds out the flavor nicely. They also have Eggs Florentine (which are not as exciting but are veggie friendly). The Mountain Xpress newspaper is going to be your best friend in town (or for anyone just passing through). Look for any old issues that have information on food.
Happy Benedict hunting! Cheers! Post back for the benefit of the board if you find places that are new.

I was also going to recommend Early Girl. They have great breakfast, and I’m sure Eggs Benedict is on the menu.

amazingkae’s suggestions are the best. i’ve had the eggs benedict at cornerstone and it was pretty good and serving breakfast past typical breakfast hours is a plus! so try there! good luck.

I don’t really remember if they had it or not, but you could also check out (I think this is the name) the Over Easy Cafe, which is either on Lexington or Merrimon/Broadway. I ate there a couple weeks ago and they’re definitely a breakfast place; they might have it. Just a thought. Good luck! =)

Amazingkae knows her stuff. You can’t beat homemade. No matter where you go, you can have exactly what you want anytime. Williams-Sonoma.com has a great egg poacher. All you’ll need after that is ham, english muffins, cayenne pepper, and a yummy hollandaise sauce – here’s my recipe:
Place 4 egg yolks, 2 T lemon juice, a pinch of cayenne pepper, and salt and pepper (to taste) into a fairly large saucepan and with a hand whisk, whisk all the ingredients until they have blended together. Cut 9 oz. of butter into small chunks and add to the saucepan. Turn the heat on the cooker to medium and begin to whisk the ingredients. As the butter melts, make sure that you blend it thoroughly into the egg yolks. Continue to whisk vigorously until all of the butter has blended into the eggs. If the sauce begins to separate, add 2 tsp of water to the sauce mixture and whisk briskly until the mixture has combined together to form a creamy sauce. Once all of the butter has melted and a sauce has been formed, continue whisking until the sauce thickens to the desired consistency. Add more salt and pepper if desired. Remove from the heat and keep the sauce warm before serving for up to 30 minutes. Don’t forget to share your creation with everyone you know. You may introduce them to something they have not yet tasted and they will love you for that. Plus, they’ll know what a great cook you are!
