Yes but you have to make reservations at Phantom Ranch. Need to make
these early. If the park is still open call now for next hiking season
that starts early May. Also you can camp but you have to make
reservations there to. We hiked it across in one day. I highly advise if you do that leave at around 2 in the morning to make sure you miss the direct
sun and that you make it out before dark. You need reservations across
the canyon on the North end as well. There is a shuttle that can take you
back to the South side. So contact Grand Canyon National PArk to get
the phone number for reservations.
Have fun.

Hi There,
Yes it is and unless you are teriffic shape you will have to sleep at the
bottom. In April when I went the temperature was 30 to 40 degrees WARMER at
the bottom of the canyon. I was in good shape when I went down and it took 6
hours down and 10 hours up Coming up was brutal – the temperature dropping
and the air getting thinner. Take very good care of your feet.

Yes… you need a backcountry pass to camp, and reservations at Phantom Ranch if you don’t want to rough it.
Phantom Ranch is a bit rustic, but it is still a full-service hotel, comfortable, and offers good food. Highly recommended, but it does fill up quickly.
Backcountry passes require more planning, because the park service doesn’t want to have to search for you if something goes wrong and they need to medevac you.
If you plan ahead it’s quite safe; they won’t give you a backcountry pass if you don’t have your ducks in a row, but the park rangers at most of the national parks are very happy to help you make those plans.
Remember, they WANT you to enjoy your visit and return home safely, so they are not trying to keep you out, they are trying to ensure your safety while you’re there.
