I saw ISPs there even though I never used it either. I don’t think getting a connection would be a problem, but something like DSL would be pretty expensive (if available at all) and being on an island you should expect to have random outages, as the infrastructure that provides internet there is subject to a lot of factors outside anyone’s control.

I stayed at a hotel and we had decent internet when I was there. The whole island is funded by tourist, so, whatever the tourist want they will have. Just remember, the island can hardly support itself, everything is imported. . .and probably costs a lot.

When I was there I paid about 9 bucks a month for dialup that was what you’d expect from dialup… there are a couple of Internet cafe’s that primarily cator to tourists, but didn’t have any problem letting me plug my laptop into their network. They offered wifi as well. There is an ISP that offers broadband, but I didn’t use it so I can’t comment on the quality.

Infrastructure is a problem, mostly in the form of the last mile – the connections to the island are good, but the local exchange and cable tv companies aren’t comparable to what you get stateside… island time, mon.

I found that I became more efficient in my use of the Internet – and therefore more productive in my actual work while I was there – because I didn’t have 24/7 broadband. Your milage may vary.

Here is a good site that will help you out! The message boards are also very helpful. Good luck and have fun. :)
