Why is it called Biosphere 2?

I remember hearing the answer, but I don’t remember for sure what it is. I think either it is because they did a biosphere 1 which kinda failed, or because biosphere 1 is earth, and biosphere 2 is their experiment.

You are correct: Biosphere 1 is the earth.
