Goa is a great place …. its not that expensive… but the food is… you can stay in good hotel for lil over 500 Indian rupees… u can rent a bike for 150 bucks a day and see goa.. its fun and its happening…..

If you’re going at peak tourist season - around New Year’s Eve - book ahead. The hotels in the more beachy areas (calungute, baga, anjuna) start charging US Dollar equivalents ($120 – $300 a night per double room!!)

Food and entertainment are relatively inexpensive. It’s the accomodations that will get you if you don’t watch out/plan in advance.

I personally recommend going after the tourist season (post January 3) when the tourists have emptied out. :)

Don’t be skeptical. A few tips that go with travelling pretty much anywhere.

North Goa beaches (Baga, Candolim, Anjuna)is where all the action is and therefore a bit more expensive. Avoid Calangute totally…its way too touristy.
South Goa beaches (Colva, Palolem, Bogmello) are relatively quiet and not so expensive.
So it really depends on what kind of vacation ur looking for.

Please don’t be scepticle about Goa, I have been going for 10 years, I have been there this year came back on 21st January and I am going back on 23rd March. It is the perfect place and need not be expensive, it all depends on what you are looking for. You can stay in accommodation for as little as 350rps a night right up to 6* hotels, so it depends on what you want and which resort you stay in the north is much cheaper than the south, the north is busy the south is quiet, I stay in the south and its fabulous. I pay 700rps per night for a room in a guest house with kitchen, dining room and lounge with TV, there is no air conditioning but how long do you spend in a room. The food is very cheap compared to home, where else can you have curry/rice/naan and beer all night for £10…. Seafood is more expensive but much much cheaper than home. Get yourself there and make your own mind up, life is too short.
