There’s a lot of apartments near the DFW area. Will you have access to transportation? If so, most apartments are a short drive away. Also, it’s near Las Colinas, where a lot of young people are living and working now.

Good luck!

No matter where you live in DFW, you’re going to need a solid, reliable car. Public transportation is practically unheard of between Dallas and the surrounding communities, as is the notion of carpooling. As far as areas that are close to the airport, Grand Prairie and Coppell are ones that spring up first in my mind. As SaraEMiller pointed out, Irving (Las Colinas) is also good. Other areas to check out are Euless and Grapevine.

To echo what SaraEMiller said, Irving is probably the best area for younger people as it’s pretty easy to get to the main Dallas hotspots (clubs, bars, cool places, etc.) without living inside Dallas proper.

Hope this helps!

If you will be working at DFW, then the best places to get an apartment will be Irving or HEB. (Hurst, Euless, Bedford they get lumped into one because they are small cities close to each other.) Public transportation out there is non existent, so be prepared to get a car and drive everywhere. Las Colinas is an option, but it is pricey. If you aren’t going to be here for more than a year then you will have plenty to see and do. After that you have pretty much seen it all and if you are like me will be ready to move on. You can look for apartments online at places like moveforfee.com and check them out on apartmentratings.com (take those with a grain of salt, as usually only the pissed off people post) and you should be able to find a nice place to live in that area for about $6-700 a month.

When I lived in Dallas I learned more about the TRE – the train between Dallas and Fort Worth.

It actually has a stop with at the South end of DFW and buses into the airport terminals.

This service is excellent for travellers. I don’t know if it works for the schedule for employees.

But there is a way to get to the airport without the expense of a car and airport parking, etc.

What type of neighborhoods do you like? Family suburban or city chic?

Dallas uptown is fun for singles or couples just starting out. Lots to do and cool people to meet!

I met alot of Pilots and Flight Attendants who lived in the Uptown area. They loved it.

We had a cute all bills paid condo for $675 a month on the mass transit bus line. We could explore all around the city for under $3 a day. It was a fun year!

Then I decided to move back to Fort Worth. Not sure what I was thinking there.

dfw airport is actually in north irving, for the most part, not dallas or fort worth. hurst/euless/bedford is a bit further. i would try for the valley ranch area (in irving)...there are nice apartments that aren’t too, too expensive because you’re not quite in las colinas. i would suggest looking on a street called macarthur in the block past the highway 635. and i agree, you definitely need a car. the public transportation system is crap right now.

Irving really is the best place to be if you will not have transportion. Many of the apartment buildings right near the edge of airport property are on bus lines that can deliver you right to certain areas of the airport, including the terminals. I live in Irving/Las Colinas and couldn’t be happier with how close I am to the airport (I travel a lot with work).

Lizdoll had a great recommendation about the Valley Ranch area. It really is a nice area and the prices are reasonable for apartments. Any apartment complex that you investigate should be able to provide information about the bus system. Contrary to what many people say, Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is better than we think. The only problem may be returning home late after a Friday or Saturday night in downtown Dallas or Fort Worth.

When you arrive, e-mail all of us again at 43places.com and we will let you know about some happenings in the area, happy hours, and fun activities.
