A question about this place:
I will be travelling from Warsaw to Cieszyn in the south of Poland. I would just like to know some tips about the train stations in Warsaw and any general information about train travel in Poland. Thanks!

Hi Joannashoana,

what exactly do you want to know (prices)?

Warsaw main train station is basic to say the least, i can tell you that much.

Apart from that, I dont know what other advice I could give.

Train is a good option to travel in Poland. Intercity trains in Poland are ok, regional trains are quite creepy, but ok as well.
Intercity trains have carts with snaks and drinks for buy, and tea, coffee and biscuits for free for breakfast.

My tips:
Do reservations when possible.
Don’t allow anybody to help you with your lubbage to find a free place, you’ll have to pay him after.

Train stations aren’t good places for sleep at night, many homeless people look there fo some heat and the smell is awful.

Polish trains have a thing I didn’t see in any other country, bottle-openers in the wall under the window :)

Polish railways company web page is very useful http://rozklad.pkp.pl/bin/query.exe/en? (english version)

PKP, the polish railway company has a very good network with their intercity and express trains. Just check the website ifrit gave you. For buying the ticket I recommend to go direct to the stations. I always choosed the Express or Pospieszny trains, as the quality is almost the same, just a bit slower in traveling speed. The costs are half of Intercity. Generaly train costs are very cheap (Warsaw-Krakow with Pospieszny ~ EUR 10)
Taking the train is the easiest way to travel arround in Poland.

the website is outstanding – it let me plan every trip in english so when i went to the station i knew exactly the route i wanted with the times. i always bought tickets at the station just before the train was to arrive – but i was also traveling in the middle of winter.
as a girl – i highly recommend bringing tp or tissue. the train toilets are pretty nasty and never had tissue.
not sure when you’ll be there, but if it’s during the cold… just be aware that most of the trains get drafty inside. don’t be surprised to see ice forming inside the windows.
bring snacks, sandwiches, drinks.
and, as an fyi, warsaw has an entire underground shopping/commerce area that is attched to the train station. (having lived on the mild west coast all my life, i had no idea things like this existed.) i immediately got lost in it when i arrived in warsaw b/c i took a wrong turn : )

The best way is to take train. Just check www.pkp.pl and you will find direct connection. In Warsaw take a train from Warszawa Cetralna Station, just ahead from Mariott Hotel. I don’t reccomend to take by bus because it’s longer and less conmfortable.
