My thoughts: how can you go to China and not see the Great Wall? I found it very beautiful and impressive. I went early in the morning before there were a lot of people climbing all over… I would recommend that.
On the other hand… if you don’t like to walk a lot, this would be dreadful. It’s hard work.
Your call.

Well, I’m an American and I’m (somewhat) ashamed to say that I haven’t seen much of the American sites.
I like your country, though. : )

Definitely worth it. I don’t know how somebody could consider it boring. You really feel like you’re looking back over a thousand years. The only real negative is that the place is swarming with people selling junk (just like almost everywhere else around Beijing), but it’s still amazing to experience.

I am assuming you would go at the tourist spot near Beijing. There’s a tram to the top so you don’t have to walk.

I would definately not classify it as boring,.. the Great Wall (or walls as it is not a single wall) is one of my favourite man made places. I concede however, that those who have no interest in history and are not intrigued by what went before us might find it boring…

Go there and see for yourself, but try to go, as others have suggested, early in the morning. I would also suggest going to sites other than those most commonly proposed by the tourist industry.

Hope this helps you.

I have truly enjoyed each and every trip that I have taken to see the Great Wall, but I think you must match the place you go to with your expectations.

If you want to see the Great Wall in the easy way, go to Badaling where the Wall has been restored and is very easy to access >> TOTALLY touristy!!!

If you want something more authentic, go to e.g. Simatai or Jinshanling where things are less touristy (and in my opinion much more beautiful), but where you have a much more rough trip ahead of you ;o)
