Definitely just you. Just open your eyes. It’s a beautiful place.

It’s you. Guess you didn’t have much time to look around when you were there – it is a big place, so it takes a while to really appreciate it.

There is at least one thing, just a little thing called the Carlsbad Caverns, in White’s City, that you could spend 3 days hiking in and just cover the area around the entrance, which is filled with majestical and mystical caves full of color, ponds, climbing, shimmering curtains and spikes that are an endless display of God’s wonder. It’s indescribible…and that is just the first 3 days worth. I ran out of time to make it further in exploring the caves, but it was magical.
The 8 million + bats that shoot out in a steady stream at dusk is quite a display as well. The black plume paints a moving swoosh through the sky that goes deep into Mexico and it doesn’t end for hours and you can’t see the beginning in the dark of the cave, nor the end in the distant view in the sky.

Oh yah, I think the caves are underneath most of the state of New Mexico and a long way into Texas, so it would definitely take some time to trek through those.

I didn’t have much time in New Mexico, after I spent it all in a historical pueblo village for photography and the night sky view is the best in the U.S…it’s why they have the largest sky observatory there. I did see a lot of great things on my way through, awesome artwork on roadways that you can’t see in many other states.

In my week there I had plenty to do, see and smell.
Maybe you just missed something that turned your crank. But there is plenty there and I never even made it to the destinations I had planned…so someday I will return.

Oh yah, there was this great little restaurant I ate in for 3 days in a row at the end of each day hiking the caves…great food and wonderful customer service. I met a lady that worked there and she was so friendly to me, she treated me like a friend, that’s another thing you might not find on every trip in other states.

If you think those are the only things in New Mexico, you must not have gotten out much. Didn’t you see the mountains right next to you?

There is a whole lot to see in New Mexico, as people have already said. I feel people just need to get out and embrace the culture of their surroundings and there can be a whole lot to be found.

Not a lot more, but your close. New Mexico is not as nice as any of it’s neighbors (Arizona, Colorado, Texas) but it is still a nice place to visit. Small towns in the north, small-time gambling, art. Not a bad state.

OMG!! I can’t believe you say that! I am New Mexican and proud. As well as Native American/Hispanic to hear you say this!! is offensive. To me it appears as if you are a bit close-minded…I’ve been all over the world. I still come back to New Mexico and appreciate it’s beauty. There is soo much to do, outdoors and such. But buddy if you are looking for the typical “American” thing to do..bars and such…this isn’t the place for you..wot were u expecting? OPEN YOUR EYES..

Wrong! We don’t have a gym. Don’t bother coming here. Stay away.

Lots of cool stuff to do there, and I’ve barely even started exploring!

I remember Santa Fe was really cool.

Then there’s the skiing, rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking – so many scenic places.

And probably the best Chili I’ve ever eaten was at this restaurant at the bottom of Acoma. Acoma itself was pretty neat.

Albq has lots to do. Its been such a long time I don’t remember everything, but I’ve enjoyed New Mexico both times that I have been there.

It’s you. Check out the amazing desert, the awesome thunderstorms, and the rich culture, for a start.

I would like to thank all of the people above for taking the time and energy to answer such a frivolous question… I wish I had more compassion, that would be another thing for me to add to my list :)

Compassionate people typically are people who have received compassion in their own lives… surely you have?

this sounds familiar. i grew up in NJ, where, if you’re not paying attention, it’s easy to think all they’ve got are malls, diners, and parking lots. there’s beautiful stuff everywhere, you just have to look (and in New Mexico, it’s not all that hard).
