A question about this place:
Where is a good place to stay around Sol Duc? I hear the resort is awful.

I haven’t stayed at the resort but it looks pretty bad from the times I’ve driven past on the way to the Sol Duc hiking trail.

There are some campgrounds in the general area, and you could range a little wider to Port Angeles if you’re interested in a city stay with the Olympic National Park on your doorstep.

Thanks, Don.

We ended up staying two nights at the Thortown Hostel in Port Angeles (nice folks, comfy beds, free wifi!) and two nights at the Rainforest Hostel about 20 miles south of Forks (a different cultural experience which I can elaborate on if fols are interested). So we saved our scarce travel bucks and boy, are we glad we did.

We too, passed by the resort when we did the Sol Duck falls trail. The pool is overproduced, obliviating the fact that these are natural hot springs and the cabins are right out in the sun, just grass around. NOt worth the prices they were charging.

We had a terrific trip. By saving on lodging we were able to have a couple of very nice dinners out in Port Angeles and La Push, and on other nights, amazing picnics on beaches such as Rialto and Ruby. Can’t beat it.
