A question about this place:
How do I go about being an actor?

Take acting classes. Read Backstage West (http://www.amazon.com/Back-Stage-West/dp/B00008RUFI) to find auditions. Build up a body of work, then get an agent (See “getting an agent” on http://www.fabjob.com/actorsample.html). Read blogs by actors to learn about their experiences. Good luck!

Thank you Julie!

I will get on that. Do most people have to move to LA to find, how do you say, relative acting work?

It’s possible to find casting calls in Oklahoma, but you can’t beat the density of opportunities in LA. You might have to live with roommates and eat mac ‘n cheese, but you won’t starve. Worst case scenario you can sign up with an agency that specializes in extras and get paid to be a live prop.

If you want to work in theater, NYC is a better choice.

Haha, I dont mind mac’n cheese =)

Thank you for all your help Julie, I hope you dont mind tons of questions because I really dont know anything.

I dont think i’d mind being a live prop either haha.

But is the pay for that type of work, the worst case senerio kind, enough to pay rent and eat mac’n cheese? Is it more likely to have to get a side job too? probably huh? haha.

Thank you again Julie =)

Hi again :)

Here’s a really useful website from the U.S. Department of Labor that gives tons of information about working conditions, average pay, etc. for actors.

http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos093.htm

Here’s a recent news article about average rent in Los Angeles.

Good luck!!

Go there, get a part-time job doing anything, go to acting school, meet a lot of people, go to the Comedy Shop on Melrose Avenue and hang out in other places like that. Being an actor is about WHO YOU KNOW in Hollywood. Stay clean, give it all you’ve got and don’t forget to invite me to your party when you get your Grammy Award. Cheers, Kudoku

Thank you Kudoku! I have always been bad about the “who I know” thing =/

But I will definately invite you to the party if I still can get in contact with you by then!

Just you and Julie’s help has really made me care for this site. It’s wonderful having so much life experience and advice right here infront of me.

I am going to explore the Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo site now!

Thanks againn,
Nick!
