A question about this place:
My wife and I are moving to Shreveport from the crime ridden city of Houston. My parents live in S'port and I love visiting because the town is quiet, but there are things to do. I need a job for 6 months. Any ideas?

A good job to get would be in the casino industry—just don’t get too close to any of the employees because most of the people that work there are messy, and untrustworty and thats why I got out. The money is excellent. I will also recommend some good restaurants to eat there—Monjunis, Superior Bar & Grill, Copelands, and Shane’s BBQ. Shreveport will always be home to me though my birth city is in GA and I am in GA right now going to school. What kind of business are you looking into?

honestly, Shreveport is pretty much a ghetto unless you have wads of cash flowing from your ears and can move somewhere like Ellerbe Rd. or some private estates. I prefer Bossier over Shreveport for many reasons. Bossier is actually the quite, more conservative city between the two and there is only a bridge seperating them. Bossier is cleaner and there are less crime incidents than Shreveport. Jobs in Shreveport are kinda hard to come by (if you get one making more than $6 an hour). Try the CenturyTel center on Bert Kouns (not in Bossier) they start pay at $11.99 + commission. The boat is a good job but that is for a more long-term deal, I wouldn’t get into that unless you are ready to make that your main source of income. You’d have to tell me more, what area you are planning on moving to, what type work you enjoy (or would do to pay the bills), and what hours you have available.

My condolences.

Shreveport isn’t the place to go if you’re trying to escape crime. It’s right on-par with Houston, at 4 points higher than the national average for violent & propery crime – significant on a 10-point scale.

The job market is stagnant, and forget about progress; many of the restaurants and businesses that opened just a few years ago around the casinos and “fancy” Riverwalk area have closed. Don’t even get me started on the food tax & state income tax…

Thank you for the crime records, but those numbers were last updated in January 2005, before Katrina. In Houston, murders are up 17% over last year pre-Katrina. That’s a lot of crime.

Yeah, but you have to consider that Shreveport is also housing Katrina evacuees…

Well then, where do you suggest I can register a car $20 two years, no smog testing, no brine to rust out my 20 year old car, no tax on retirement, homestead exemption for taxes, schools well I think Byrd, Capt Shreve, Caddo magnet are pretty good…but Yes i do agree about low paying jobs, crime
