A question about this place:
Does anyone have any recommendations for food/lodging (or guidebooks that would have same)? We're flying in to Mumbai and staying for a few days (partially to recover from jet lag) before heading to Goa.

Bombay being the amazing city we can find all types of accomodation. If loads of 5 Star Hotels close to the airport.

When I was staying in India, even I used lonely planet. It is fairly close on area and hotel conditions. Ask the hotel to send a car to pick up, it will save some headache.
If you sleep well in the flight, do not expect too much of a jet lag.

A few things I liked in Mumbai: Worli Sea face (a wall along the sea shore), Chowpatti, Lonavala (2 hours drive away).

I stayed at Hotel Orritel West in Mumbai close to the airport. The hotel was convenient and rooms were well decorated. The web site is at www.orritel.com

I suggest ensuring that you make flight and travel reservations in advance since things get booked during the travel season.
