After many months of good intentions, I finally made it to a state park. I took advantage of the fact that I was nearby dogsitting and took a jaunt over to Afton State Park on the beautiful St. Croix River. When I went to buy my annual parking pass and get my little passport stamped (the shameless extrinsic motivation for this whole undertaking), I picked up a little walking tour description. Since I had roughly 2 1/2 hours to spend in the park, I thought this would be a perfect way to hit on some of the main highlights. It was ideal! Walked through the main picnic areas, down to the swimming beach on the river, through the wooded areas, beside a creek, burbling with life, and back up to the restored prairie portion of the park. And since it’s only about 15 minutes from my work, I can plan to come xc skiing here in the winter. Doing this made my week. I’ve felt like a wheel spinning, doing all sorts of boring stuff this summer and not having enought adventures. This morning was just what I needed. Plus, I like to walk alone. That way I forget I’m slow ;)
