Hood River
A review of this place: New Location of Acre Totally Earthbound — 2 years ago
Worth visiting!
For a place that’s always been super eco-sensitive, Acre’s new location surpasses all for total connection to earth. Located on the corner (the intesection between 13th and State) coming down Hospital Hill, the building is painted in attractive greens and the interior is faced with lightly-shaded wood.
Even the coffee tastes organic. It’s not the best coffee I’ve ever tasted (for that I’d suggest Dog River Coffee Co.), but it certainly has a distinctive flavor that literally even tastes earthbound. It almost tastes like Kona-type espresso instead of the tradish. Also, the best chai in Hood River is to be found here.
The coffee shop is large, with two entrances and two nearly separate rooms. It’s never very full, but Acre has a set of devoted regulars as well as ocassional local drop-ins. It’s far enough from the main street that most tourists don’t make it in, but I would definitely recommend a stop here for any tourist who wants to check out Hood River’s organic scoop.
They also serve what I’ve heard are great breakfasts and lunches. I know many people who don’t actually go to Acre for coffee, but for the food. Everything’s super hardcore organic, and the place has a really peaceful atmosphere.
Definitely high on my list. Touring people might find it a nice break from the crowded main street (and it’s only one street up) and will be treated to a relaxing experience complete with unique, and wonderful, coffee.
