The Drum Tower aka: 鼓楼

Not sure if I just lucked out, or if it’s a commonplace thing, but when I visited the Drum Tower, I happened upon a great drumming performance from a group of about 5-6 musicians. It was a rainy Wednesday afternoon, and there were fewer people in the audience than on the stage.

The Drum Tower is located right next door to the Bell Tower in the heart of Xi’an. It was built in the 14th century and now holds thousands of drums of different shapes and sizes. The drums are amazing to see and hear. There is a huge room at the top of the tower that showcases each specially made drum. The showroom is particularly impressive because of the HUGE drum dominating the middle of the drum. It also showcases antique Chinese furniture as well.
