Venus de Milo aka: Aphrodite of Milos

This is actually called Aphrodite of Milos, a greek statue that is commonly called Venus de Milo the Roman name for Aphrodite. The plaque in the Louvre refers to her as Aphrodite.

The crowd around Venus de Milo was minimal on my visit (not hoarded like the Mona Lisa). She’s beautiful and interesting, but I really could not see why she was “better” than the scores of other ancient sculpture in the Louvre (some of which seemed more interesting to me). Still, it was cool to see the real deal.

While we got upclose and personal with Mona Lisa, I found the Venus de Milo far more beautiful. Breathtaking even. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
