Algonquin Hotel

for a drink in the lounge.

It started to sleet so we ducked into the lobby of the Algonquin for shelter and a mid-afternoon drink. Very civilized. They have big comfy armchairs, cocktail napkins with Dorothy Parker quotes: “I love a martini but 2 at the most; 3 I’m under the table; 4 I’m under the host” and a casual attitude to how long you should stay. The drinks are not inexpensive so I felt justified to relax and people watch and share quips and bon mots as if one of the famed Round Table.

PS – I always check out the restroom and this one is worth visiting – clean and marble filled, down a twisting staircase.
