Tourist restaurants
I have mixed feelings about the Quartier Latin’s restaurant district. First time I visited here my boyfriend wanted lunch, and we stopped at a ridiculously decorated Greek restaurant serving giant shrimps, and they made you smash your plates afterwards. We were the only people in there and it was weird but fun. Second time me and my family went for dinner, and it was crowded and über-touristy. We went for the first restaurant on our path (The Demi-Lune near Saint Michel) and the menu was cheap and decent. The waiters were friendly and used to tourists, they didn’t even blink when the American teens at the table next to us had silly demands for their wine. It reminded me very much of the Rue des Bouchers in Brussels. The next evening we went to the Latin Quarter again for dinner, and wandered around for a bit choosing a restaurant. They all have basically the same menu btw. It was crowded, and several hosts were trying to get you into their restaurants. I did not like it, it made me very nervous. Then a guy bumped into me on purpose, knocking the air out of my lungs (like in that video from ‘Bittersweet Symphony’) I got bruised and the evening turned a bit sour for me. If I want to eat good French food again in Paris – in a relaxed environment – I won’t search for it here. On the other hand, the Demi Lune did serve a good cheap meal, and if you can stand the hassle and crowds, this is the place to find a cheap dinner address.

An awesome place to just be in… Explore all the little side streets and when you get a bit tired, sit in one of the many cafes to simply people watch and soak up the atmosphere…

I lived in a cheap youth hostel on rue Mouffetard
and enjoyed walking the city and sometimes using Metro. It’s lovely to be right in the Middle of “the action”
