Dimmuborgir

This is an impressive ʻAʻā formation close to the ring road and lake Mývatn. It has good paths for visitors and is easy to explore (ʻAʻā formations can otherwise be almost completely impassable).

It’s also has a cool name (Dark Fortresses/Cities) and is worth a stop for that alone. The band Dimmu Borgir would agree, since it is named after the place.

If you’re in Dimmuborgir in good weather, it is so beautiful! Highly recommended!

Well, I can’t upload a photo for some reason, but here are a bunch for you to check out. It is this awesome area filled with twisted lava formations that sometimes look sinister and sometimes look like faces. The name means “Dark City.” I love that something like this exists in the world.
