Chenzhou is a small town which doesn’t really have much to offer for the tourist — at least not in town. Chenzhou, however, is surrounded by hills, caves, and lakes that are worth seeing. Travel over to the Dongjian Lake, and hire a boat to take you to the caves. I’m not exactly sure how to get there, but there’s also a natural spring swimming pool that is very nice (not too far out of town).
The town is nice if you’ve a reason for being there, such as adopting a child. There’s Beihu Park and Suxian Mountain. There are a couple of restaurants that serve western style food, plus McD’s and KFC.
Chenzhou, like everywhere else in China, is upgrading, and they are seeking to be a tourist destination for Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Macao. Maybe one day they’ll succeed.
But then again, all of Hunan is beautiful.
