don’t think about Starbucks or anything that the post-modern world calls a coffee shop. Instead, ponder on your favorite episodes of “Leave It to Beaver”, “Father Knows Best”, and “Gomer Pyle” and picture the fathers in some of these going into the local coffee shop and sitting at the counter with the fat china cups of coffee and you will get a better picture of Dot’s. Only they no longer have the counter or, come to think of it, the fat china cups. But it does have that “counter and fat china cups” kind of 50s ambience and that’s just as important as the reality.
It’s been there probably since the Allen brothers sailed down the bayou and decided to start a settlement right about where Market Square is right now. OK, not that long, but at least as long as since “Leave It to Beaver” was a pilot, if not before.

Not that they will know who that is, but tell ‘em anyway. It’s that kind of place.
