Henry Vilas Zoo

I agree with a previous poster that there used to be more animals. They’ve been redeveloping the entire zoo over the past few years and this has resulted in fewer animals with bigger and nicer exhibits. Their next update is to make an arctic passage and it looks like it will be using some currently unused space very well. They’ve also been able to land some more interesting animals of late like the Red Pandas, African Porcupines and Meerkats (though only 2 meerkats aren’t that exciting to watch) in the children’s zoo area.

I think this zoo is easily one of the best free zoos in the country and am glad to see they are working hard to get it into the new millenia.

sure its not the greatest zoo ever, not even really all that memerable, but its free. Its something to do. fun for the whole family.

its not something to drive from afar to see, cause the brookfield zoo is only two hours south, and a million times better…. but it costs.

great for locals.

I guess the two giraffes they had living at Vilas Zoo suddenly dropped dead. They are doing work on the Giraffe exhibit now, and are currently (as of two weeks ago or so) looking for replacements…kind of odd about the giraffes though!

Its pretty nice. When I was younger it was better. There were more animals and stuff. But its still nice there. I need to go back again sometime soon when I have time. This up coming spring!
