Dripping Springs

one cinder block @ a time...  — 2 years ago

Worth visiting!

i used to go with my church on mission trips every summer for 3 years. we would go to this tiny village on the base of the saddleback mountains just outside of monterrey. we built houses for the families out of cinderblocks (if they were lucky) & sang with the children @ vacation bible school.

it was beautiful.

grey, dirty, polluted, they were living on the government’s trash dump site. a landfill filled with disaster. beautiful disaster.

so many children, full of hope & smiles, spanish words mingling with my own english ones.

dirty hands grabbing at my pockets for another peso or piece of candy. 10 tiny brown bodies following me, taking the hat from my head when carried on my shoulders.

spinning with a delicate human being balanced on my back, my heart would never stop spinning, even when i leave.

so many memories from this dirty place surround my everyday life, and i remember what it was like to be carefree.
