Sachsenhausen

Walking round this place, you just get such a surreal feel. The fact that many thousands of people died there just hits you, especially in the underground section of the medical wing – there’s a dissecting room now kitchen down there…and it’s sooo creepy :S as was the mortuary and the burial pits shudder

but it’s an amazing lesson on history

I went to Sachsenhausen a little over two years ago and still can’t really grasp what it means.

The hardest part was when I went to leave and put one foot over the gate (“Arbeit Macht Frei”) and realised just how important it was that I could do this, but 60 years ago there was no leaving for anyone else.

I don’t understand the place, and it still comes back to me sometimes when I step through a doorway.

Go here, expect nothing but bricks and ruins…
