Worth visiting!
The first time I went to this place
Today I went to the Artists Space for the first time. I found out about it on a website with a list of New York attractions, so I figured I would put it on my list of places to go.
It was all installation and video art.
So first I walked around and looked at all the installation art. I’m not a big fan of installation art to begin with, and these exhibits, Nina in Position and Shana Lutker: Combined Faulty Acts I can’t say I was impressed with. You can see some of these exhibits on the website, but I don’t know how long they will be posted since the show ends today. An example of something I wasn’t impressed with was a group of three plants. I wouldn’t have realized they were supposed to be a work of art unless there was an explanation accompanying them. It said one of the plants was found left behind in an apartment someone moved out of. The artist found the plant and took care of it, giving it a second chance and got the two other plants to keep it company. Come on! If I knew it were this easy to have an art show, I would have taken my grandmother’s plant I rejuvenated years ago and displayed that. The only problem is, I couldn’t and wouldn’t do that!
So then I went to the black room and watched part of a video of Eskimos hunting and flaying walrus and then I left.
They have a suggested donation of $5. I’m glad I gave $2.
I’m giving the Artist’s Space a “worth going” because it was a place I wanted to try and I had no expectations. Plus, I like to see what’s out there no matter what it is. I’ll go back next time they have an exhibit and see how it is.
