Worth visiting!

Kinda neat

A friend and I wandered in on our way to the South Street Seaport. The building used to be the seat of the 1st precinct of NYC. It was 30 minutes before closing so the officer there just let us in for free. A lot of the museum is focused on 9/11 with memorials commemorating those who lost their lives. There are also very cool sections on confiscated weapons, police uniforms, and the progress of police transportation through the decades.

I learned many fun facts. For example, up until the first half of this century NYC police colours were green, black and white. Female officers used to be issues a leather holster that had room for a six-shooter and a standard-issue make-up kit! And judging by the names of the all the NYPD chiefs over the years, the vast vast majority are in fact of Irish descent (so the stereotypes are true)!
