It's Home - and a bit of information. by bubbafat

I currently live in Holly Springs, NC.

The town has grown from 800 to 12,000 people in about 10 years and while it shows in a few places, it has done a great job of keeping up. There are several new schools (built in the last 2 years – and another in progress), the business area is growing (Wal*Mart just opened … blegh, another strip mall is coming this year).

The professional business side is growing too. Novartis just opened it’s new office (several hundred professional jobs), there are a few software companies (Rolemodel, some company that makes ATM software and a few others), some industry, etc.

Great access to Cary, Raleigh and Durham. Chapel Hill and Wake Forest are a bit of a hike (45 minutes each).

There aren’t many places to eat in Holly Springs (that is changing) but Fuquay Varina and Apex are both 5 minutes away and have many options at every price and quality point. From fast food to nice sit-down dinners (Peak City Grill, Mt. Fuji, etc).

Housing is very affordable. We built a 4-bed 2500/sq house 3 years ago on a quarter acre for just under 200k. You could buy/build the same for about the same today. The housing market in our community is still active with many pending and closed sales in the last month (May 2009).

Plenty of programs for kids. Between the Hunt Center, private companies (Mt. Kim Taekwondo and Sonshine Gymnastics, for example) and the schools, there is plenty for kids of all ages to do.

There is not any public transportation in Holly Springs and the sidewalks must be on the 20 year plan because outside of downtown there just aren’t many (and there they exist they generally only parallel a housing development so they come and go quickly).

When 540 makes it to Holly Springs (2012 or later … maybe much later if they don’t get moving) the housing prices will, in my opinion, spike like they have in Wake Forest where the 540 extension is already done. It takes me about 35 minutes to get from my house to my office in RTP in normal traffic. 45 to 60 in rush hour traffic. If 540 can cut that to 20-25 minutes the Holly Springs/Fuquay Varina area will become very attractive.
