Lime Kiln Point State Park

That may sound dramatic but it is true - back in 1994 my family and I stopped by during our family reunion get-together on San Juan Island. My aunt and uncle recommended this place for the view, so we went right around sunset. The vision of an absolutely killer late evening summer sunset - red skies aflame behind Vancouver Island, Victoria sparkling in the distance - has remained with me ever since. My visit the other day was no less rewarding for being in the daytime, thanks to the orcas moving up the Haro Strait and the beautiful clear weather. The location is also more easy to walk to than before, thanks to some improvements since I last went, so if you get a chance, go - good for whale-watching, good for everything, I’d say.
